System Requirements for the WebCast

We have provided a full interface and a simplified one. The simplified interface gives robust, simple access to the speakers slide plus access to the audio of their talk. For clients with a modern multimedia pc, the full interface will attempt to match the audio with the current slide and (when live) it provided a simple chat-room talk-back for the audience.

The Full Interface

To fully participate in the complete on-line version of the webcast, you will need:

Either a PC-compatible running Windows95 (or WindowsNT),

Or a Macintosh PowerPC with MacOS 7.5.x or later. The audio requires the Mac to be running OpenTransport 1.1 or later.

And depending on your setup, etc, you will need 16-32 Mb of memory and a decent Disc Cache set (if you try the demo below and it works, then your current setup should be fine).

For the full interface, you will need Netscape Navigator 3.01 or later and the Progressive Networks RealPlayer 4.01 or later.

NOTE: RealPlayer 4.01 doesn't work with Netscape Communicator for the MAC in applications using Javascript and plug-ins (the webcasts do.) MAC users should stay with Netscape 3.01. This is a known problem that Progressive Networks and Netscape are resolving. PC compatible users running under Windows may use Netscape Communicator 4.02 with the latest RealPlayer.

UNIX Users: As Progressive Networks have not released a a general UNIX version of RealPlayer, those people wishing to use a UNIX system for the webcast will need to use the simple interface to hear audio and review the slides. The simple interface can be used using the RealAudio 3.x helper application, available for UNIX platforms. There is a version of RealPlayer for IRIX6.3, however we have not tested this with our system (we don't have an SGI box) and cannot give any assurance to it's performance.

Software Configuration Help should enable you to get the correct software to participate in the live webcast.

Test your configuration will enable you to see if you have got the correct software to run the Full Interface. We will run some simple automatic checks and then let you view a demonstration interface. If it works, then you should be fine on the day.
