Bob Kowalski's Internet Broadcast

Review an internet broadcast by one of the founding fathers of computational logic. On September 19th 1997, the Dresden University of Technology officially launched its International Masters Programme in Computational Logic, designed in cooperation with Compulog Net. To coincide with the launch, the network sponsored a special, inaugural internet lecture by Professor Robert A Kowalski, Head of the Department of Computing at Imperial College, London. Bob Kowalski's lecture - on computational logic and legal reasoning - was broadcast live on the internet as an interactive webcast. It was also beamed to a live audience in Dresden participating in the XVII Conference of Rectors and Presidents of European Universities of Technology.
ESSLI

ESSLLI 97 Summer School

A well-organised Ninth European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information, ESSLLI 97, took place in Aix-en-Provence, August 11-22, 1997. Once again, a strong Logic and Computation Section of the programme, including introductory and advanced level courses, workshop and symposium, was organised in close cooperation with Compulog Net. Student numbers at ESSLLI are increasing again; this year's school welcomed around 400 participants. Many course readers are available on CD-Rom; for details write to esslli97@lpl.univ-aix.fr. The tenth European Summer School, ESSLLI 98, will be held in Saarbrueken at the Universitaet des Saarlandes.
