Durham 2009
From ERA
In August 2009 we worked alongside the Durham residential school Course SXR369 - Environmental change: the record in the rocks.
Most of our work focussed on technical development, so we worked separately from the students for most of the week, focussing on two main challenges:
- The JISC funded Portable VoWLAN research - exploring how VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) might work in multihop wireless networks in the field. Read the Portable VoWLAN blog here
- The JANET funded Portable WLAN research - exploring networks in the wild further and possible backhaul options (3G, long distance wifi, and satellite). Read the Portable WLAN blog here
On the Friday, we went out into the field and worked alongside students and staff at the field sites in Howick.
Working alongside the SXR369 course at authentic field locations gave us the opportunity to test our systems at real sites.
Short movie (hosted on YouTube) of some of the students using the system - apologies for the quality of the audio.
