Students in the Heath and Reach sand quarry, Summer 2007

1 Welcome to the ERA project wiki.

ERA (Enabling Remote Activity) is an Open University project that supports remote participation by students in field trips. Using a wireless network, digital stills and video cameras, and two way audio communications, students are able to gather data and interact with colleagues in remote locations.

The project has supported Earth Science summer schools in 2009 ( Durham, England), 2008 (Kindrogan, Scotland), 2007 (Heath and Reach, England), and 2006 (Kindrogan) providing local network access and internet connectivity to the field. We have also tested the system between Masaya volcano, Nicaragua, and the Open University, Milton Keynes, England (2010).

This website will tell you about the project, the pedagogical approach, the equipment we've used, and the team.
