This prototype uses the concept
of online sport to illustrate how skills based learning can
be made accessible via 3G phone devices to learners who have
good reason to learn in the field. Sport is one activity
that happens (like many forms of work, indeed) away from
a desk based personal computer; so access to training would
be most valuable on-court, on the fairway, or in the field.
The demonstrator aims to bring the very best of sports coaching,
help, and tips to the internet, and also make this advice and
help available to a mobile audience. The site is divided into
a number of sections. The coaching section has animated tips
and techniques for many different sports. The forum provides
for sport discussion, and an events diary allows local teams
to advertise their events. Teachers should find the site very
useful for planning sporting activity classes.
The coaching tips and techniques are at the heart of the site.
These are short movies of leading sports men and women providing
visual examples of a specific skill, that are cleverly overlaid
with helpful annotations and detailed still-photographs, that
can be continually replayed until the student has grasped the
skill; all whilst in the field.
